Exploitation Class Announcement! (& Kier-La Janisse)

houseofpsychoticwomen_399875 See below, author Kier-La Janisse will be joining us in our Exploitation class!!!

Hey gang, our last session of the Exploitation class will be coming Thursday the 10th at 6:30! Of course, as promised, for the three weeks following I will be holding informal freebie sessions, then the first week of February we will be starting a new series of Exploitation classes. I’m willing to offer them up (only to our loyal regulars) at a mere $80 per student (new students, $100), and if you’re all real nice and re-up, I may even pitch in an extra week and let it run 6 weeks instead of 5! That’s freakin’ cheap! And I’m doing it not only ’cause SAW loves you, but ’cause I’m having fun warping your minds and skewing your (in some cases already questionable) moral compasses.

Additionally, at some point in January I will be making a return trip to Ohio which may (or may not) mean one of the inbetween freebies will be cancelled, but the upside is… and this is a BIG upside… I will be returning with my collection of Exploitation goodies which I will be sharing with the class in the second session, including: an all-but complete Jean Rollin poster collection, super cool VHS boxes, pounds and pounds of exciting rare and even imported books, letters, posters, an impressive collection of Marquis de Sade books, and so much more.

And a special guest has been booked…

That’s right, we’re not through yet, there’s plenty more to ballyhoo! I’ve been reading “House Of Psychotic Women” by Kier-La Janisse (thanks to Tom Hart for putting that under my Xmas Poinsettia), and it’s quite a ride! I won’t write a big review of it here or anything as I’m not yet through with it, but not only is the book shockingly honest (it’s sort of a hybrid between a memoir and a film criticism book), but it is also richly insightful–she smashes routine feminist dogma with serious insights! Additionally this is a very welcome and meaty contribution to my beloved genre… and not only is it by another woman, but from an unmistakably powerful female voice and perspective! She shares in her book how the themes in these movies in many ways paralleled her own growth and psychology as a complicated woman, and in many ways her book has helped me understand my powerful connection to these films. Additionally the book is beautifully designed, full of amazing photos (that really spotlight just how intoxicating and compelling the imagery in these films can be), and truly informative. I recommend it to ALL my students, putting it up there with “Immoral Tales” by Pete Tombs. In fact, I should step aside and let her teach this class. Hey… good idea! I’ve communicated with Kier-La and she will be, in fact, Skyping in LIVE for our final class on the 10th! Hell Yeah! Though, as an aside, if she meets a deadline crunch she will reschedule. So, lots of great stuff happening in the most unexpected class you’ll ever take… and at the most wonderful place on earth (not Disneyland)… SAW!

I’m excited and just about out of adjectives, exclamation points, and hyperbole…
